Plenary & partial indulgences

An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven. Here you can find a list of standard indulgences and discover which special ones are available today.

Conditions & rules

  • To gain a Plenary Indulgence, you must perform the indulgenced act and fulfill these conditions:
    1. Be in a state of grace and have complete detachment from all sin (even venial).

    3. Receive Holy Communion (preferably on the same day).
    4. Pray for the Pope's intentions (e.g., one Our Father and one Hail Mary).
  • For the Souls in Purgatory: Any indulgence (plenary or partial) can be applied to yourself or offered for the souls in Purgatory. You cannot apply an indulgence to other living persons on earth.
